I am going to merge these two threads so they make more sense.  Thanks again, Corey.

Here is what I could come up with on the fly….

Um, at the risk of having rotten veggies tossed at me; why the non-vert submissions guys?

Some *glorious* work there – but – horizontals? Covers?

Wouldn’t you crop down to a vert to make it – umm….well, you know.

Kendal: I think the intent got a little confused when the two original threads were merged. The original thread was generally asking for “constructive editorial critique of reader-submitted photographs” not specifically cover shot material… Perhaps it would make more sense if Zach/Phil opened this up to Covers and TOC shots?

    Hey Corey, guys –

    Yeah, Corey explained what happened.

Since my images above were posted on the original thread from this past June, which did not specify covers, here are a few verticals that are the best I have so far that might be suitable.  I’ve added two new TOC possibilities as well.  Links to larger images are below each picture.

In the interest of full disclosure, the following two pictures were a joint effort with my wife.  I set the camera settings, and did the post processing, and handed the camera to my wife while I fished and she took the two pictures below:

I’ll add a few more samples to include with the ones above.

Thought I’d update with a couple more “cover-material” type shots .. Feel free to use any three shots out of the ones posted. Look forward to hearing the critiques from Phil!

    Corey –

Are you using a real tilt-shift lens, a lensbaby, or photoshop for that first one?

    #69815

Zach: Yeah, fake tilt-shift that was done with photoshop.

It’s too bad those lenses cost $1400, huh?

Yeah, I can think of a few other lenses that I would choose before a tiltshift … Dang cool effect though. The lensbaby is pretty fun to play around with and a little cheaper. 😉

Hey Zach, is this now cover shot only?  Or is it still open to horizontal shots – like TOC 2 pager’s?

And also, since Phil is working for the likes of Outdoor Life and potentially other non-fly fishing magazines, is this open to hunting type shots?

    PS.

    #69819

OK, so let me get this straight…
There is a three image limit and we’re talking photographs we think would be great cover or table of content photographs.

Here are three verticals plus a TOC thrown in for good measure.

    Hey guys –

The limit was initially three images and we were going for both covers and TOCs.

From a recent trip – I’ll give these a shot to get some feedback.  Nowhere near the caliber of some of the dudes here though.

    Thanks Phil & Zach.
