My lovely wife of 367 days surprised me with a pair of these for our anniversary.  (She also didn’t complain when I went fishing the first weekend after our wedding. I think I’ll keep her.)  She bought them in the same size as my failing Simms boots, which are the disappointing “wet wading shoes” with the Amazing Peeling Soles™ by Keen.  Maybe she just got tired of hearing me cursing at them as I spent an hour or more re-gluing the soles a couple weeks ago.  (It’s probably a good thing she wasn’t around when they started coming off again in the stream.)

Trying the new ones on, I think they may be a smidge big, but that may just be the fairly deep toe box these seem to have.  OTOH, the Keens, and a pair of Chotas before that, wound up shrinking down a lot after they’d been wet and dried a few times.

I’ll swing by one of the Orvis shops in ATL to try a size down, but I’m wondering if anyone on the board has had a pair of these for a few months and can comment on any shrinkage you’ve noticed with the “microfiber” uppers, cold water or warm…

I’ve never had any synthetic boot shrink on me.

I’ve never had any synthetic boot shrink on me.

I had a pair of Loops that went from a 9 to an 8 after they were dried in the sun by a “friend”

All boots should be dried on the back windowsill, out of direct sunlight. IMHO

Sorry to hear about your sole coming off on your Simms Duncan. I believe that Simms is aware of the problem with, what seems to be a batch?? thats as much info as I have, other than telling you we are testing a new design on the Freestones. Our tester is a 60 year old guy, weighs about 110lbs in the shade and is the hardest guy on boots

I suspected as much, but it must’ve been a big batch.

    Hey Duncan,

Been running into this a lot when selling these boots. For quite a few folks that have bought the Ultralight in my store, we have gone a full size down from their normal boot size. These boots have a wider design than most, hence the discrepancy. Try a size smaller and I think you might be in good shape. I have been wearing mine for a couple of months now, and have been very happy with them so far.

That’s exactly what I wanted to know.
