I hesitate to bring this up, but for anyone interested in another article discussing distance-casting 5-wts., with (IMO) a decidedly more thoughtful analysis than some other comparisons, check this out:

That that particular site (and board) is biased toward ultra-fast-action rods. But the article seems to be written by someone not affiliated with the site.
I think it is enlightening if only to compare the distance capabilities of stiffer and slower rods (as objectively measured by CCS) as thrown by a group of casters (with subjective casting abilites). One of the softest rods compared ends up “winning” – not the longest individual cast, but the easiest rod for most of these tournament casters to throw consistently long.
