John BennettMemberLake Champlain DA?
Cant help much as Im Norht Shore (Canada) but I know some guys who make a trip to Lake Ontario’s South shore every year and Lake Eries as well. Also wantto say “Pulaski” as a name that rings a bell but dont quote me.
Best time of year “usually”.
Early-Mid Oct :Chinooks
Mid-Late Oct: Browns
Nov-Dec: SteelIf you came up to Ontario I could hook you up with all kinds of guides and outfitters who offer everything from walk and wade to drift to Bronze and Chrome days. (1/2 day Turkey, 1/2 Steel).
Some South shore tribs (forget names) but I know its south shore Ontario, somewhere around Rochester gets some real Brute Browns this time of year (lats week Oct, first week Nov)

No, Champaign Illinois.
A trip to almost anywhere in the US or Canada is a cake walk after getting to Chicago from Australia.

Wow, of all places to go, you make a trip to Champaign Illinois? I’ve only been there in the winter time and only remember flat ground, open fields, wind and snow for as far as the eye could see.

Chad SimcoxMemberGreat timing on this shot by the way, it’s an amazing capture.
Whats going on here in this photo? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fish jump like that aside from taking emerging caddis. Was it feeding?http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

It’s being fought, sometime you see the line, sometimes you don’t.Steelhead often go vertical and catch alot of air when fighting

And the fishing is crap.. 😉
Yes, there’s not a lot reasons to go there unless you’re a student or really like corn and arctic weather. 😀I grew up there, because my father (RIP) was a prof. at the U of I from 1968 -2000 and I still have a sister and her family there.
The steelhead thing looks like something you could get a guide and do for a couple of days to give a little more depth to a midwest trip.
I have read some articles over the years in the American magazines about it and it looks like fun.
Hey John, more great shots to help us all sleep at night -not !

Chad SimcoxMemberDavid, the time’s I’ve been there were for BMX races in a (somewhat) nearby town called Farmer City. The Winter Classic it was called. It was held in a small metal sided building. It was so tight in there, they had to build a bridge for the track to loop over itself. There was no heating in the building! Man it got cold there.
I have a friend here in L.A. who grew up in Champaign as well. He’s talking about moving back to Chi after getting laid off recently.

David AndersonMemberI miss the family I still have there, some of my old friends and a pizza place, but the town itself and surrounding area are another matter.
(You can’t get a good pizza in Australia to save your life)I also really don’t miss winters in the midwest.. 😉
The fishing was ok with some good lakes nearby and a few streams with smallmouth within 2 or 3 hours drive.
When I lived there I didn’t know about the steelhead (and other runs) out of the great lakes. 🙁
It’s one of the things on my fishing list to do before meeting Elvis.
