The season here in New Zealand opened back at the beginning of October, and yet I have only just recently found the opportunity to hit the water. Paul and I had big plans of strapping our backpacks on and hiking into the headwaters of a big river system for a few days of fishing. The hike was stunning, but the fishing was far from what we expected. We picked up a few fish, but the numbers and size were way down from what they should have been, so we put in a massive day of hiking and bailed early. We spent the next day on a low country paddock stream that more or less saved the trip for us. All in all, it was a great weekend of checking out new water, but more importantly, it was just nice to get back on the water. The pics:
