The trip was a blast with dynamic new challenges at so many corners.  It’s hard not to have a good time on a big trip if you pick your teammates carefully and to be honest everything about this trip was gravy after getting whipped in horseshoes underneath this sunset!

The GREAT thing about 30 mph winds is these were the only other fishermen we saw all day on Monday!

    Phil,

Your picture of the U-Haul and drift boat reminds me of 911. My best friend from college was visiting (he was a photographer for the Palm Beach Post and was in Nashville to shoot the Dolphins v. Titans home opener on 09/09/01). He got a call from his editor on that Tuesday to get to New York. By that time all of the airports had been locked down and every available rental car had been snatched up. I suggested he call U-Haul. He got a van the same size as yours and drove that into Manhattan. Turned out to be a lot cheaper than a car/van/suv, but he looked funny driving away in that huge honkin’ truck.

The North Platte is a nice river. Thanks for posting.

    Nice……that is a god ditch.

Their fall flushing starts tonight and will bump the cfs from 500 to 4000.

Sounds like you had a great trip.  The North Platte is an amazing river.  Having a boat is quite an advantage there.  The photos of the UHaul and drift boat are priceless.

I agree with Hippie…30 mph winds on the North Platte is barely a breeze.  PoudreRiver, our friend Dave, and I took a trip back in 2005…and we just couldn’t catch a break.  First time there, no boat, high water, storms daily, and wind up to 60+ mph on most days.  It was brutal…but we still managed to catch some really nice fish.  It is weird (read impossible) trying to cast into that much wind.

Here is a photograph of PoudreRiver’s net in the wind.
