With the announcement of the National Parks closing, the annual trip left us fishing outside the park boundaries. It did not stop us from having a great time and exploring some different stretches of water.

    Hope you enjoy the imagery.

Only had an hour or so this evening to pull a few images off the camera. I may look through a few more when I get a second or two.

Rumor had it that anyone walking into the park was getting cited with a fine. How we really felt about it…

Good stuff Jason! Looks like you found those aggressive brown trout. I see there was a dusting of snow while you were there (photo #4).

We’re experiencing the same thing here at Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Stupidity knows no bounds. The Oconaluftee Visitor’s Center is closed along with the parking lot (cones and barricades). The irony lies in the fact that the facility was totally funded by contributions from the citizens…..no federal money whatsoever.

The Appalachian Trail is open at Newfound Gap along with the parking lot and restrooms….but a mile down the road you cannot (legally) park in a pullout and hike a backcountry trail.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is open, but the Pisgah Inn is closed. The manager tried to stay open but the Feds found a way to shut him down. He’s leased the inn and restaurant from the Park Service for 35 years. He refused to close…..so the Federales blocked the entrance with patrol cars. He can stay open….but customers have no way to get to him.

    Go figure.

Glad you guys could “improvise and overcome”. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks Steve. It had snowed the night before we arrived. It made for some impressive scenery. It really is a crime/shame.

The wildlife in the park is probably enjoying it or maybe even confused ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope it gets resolved soon. “We The People….”

Great shots Jay – love the ’emotion’ in the last one..lol
Viewed from a distance, it seems a bit silly that things got to the point of all those people being sent from work.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.
