    Zach et al….

I really enjoy the photography forum…learning a lot here. I’m ready to take the plunge into DSLR and wanted some imput from you guys. I can get the D50 kit (28mm-80mm lens) from Wolf Camera for $599. The D70 is double the amount.

Can anyone convince me that I should pay double the amount when I intend to use this camera for fishing/wildlife photography….no professional work for me but I do enjoy quality photography.

Basic differences between the two – in layman’s terms. I’m sure this topic has been discussed ad nauseum…..if so….can you link me to the thread?

    Thanks guys!

I’m not familiar with the 28-80 lens but the main difference in the two is the lense that comes with the kit.

The D50’s 18-55mm is not a particularly nice lens.

    Zach,

Thanks for the info. I agree…I need wide angle as well.

The ad does indicate that the kit cimes with a Nikkor lens. Thanks again…..Drifter

The D50 inherits the high image quality, responsiveness and speed consumers have come to expect of Nikon’s digital SLR cameras, while also embodying a simple, intuitive and compact design, so anyone in the family can use it without hesitation.

    Drifter –

That lens is older film-camera stock.

    Zach,

After your response to my post on Sunday, I ran across the same ad at Wolf and noted the 28-70 lens.

    Drifter,

I did get the 70-300 (last Monday)… I’ve been using it almost exclusively since then.. I’m still in the experimentation mode altogether, so very few of my pictures are turning out very well (I did get a good shot of the moon, during daylight the other day…

I’ll 2nd what Zach said on the deal… During my research, I came across some feedback on certain mail order houses, which talked about the serial numbers not matching between the camera and the box it was in.
