I am convinced this is eventually going to work. However, because of the government shutdown, the lake we wanted to be on (where we had both found excessive amounts of perfect bait) was closed. So we ended up on the Lanier Inland Sea and to make things doubly bad our bait all died in the tank by midnight (we were combo bait and fly fishing).
The good news is my buoy worked like a charm:

It had pulled a moderate baitball up high by the time we picked up sticks at about 1AM, but the graph showed a storm down below.
This was our real problem:

We had picked up some excessively large blueback herring at our bait store, and they did not get along well together in the bait tank (which has always worked perfectly before). They had all keeled over by about midnight.

Fortunately, our struggles did not stop Jay from wearing an awesome hat.

Also, the Braves won. You can see the buoy being awesome in the background. We could clearly make out its green light from a quarter mile away, but I also put a night light up top for safety’s sake.
At some point this is going to work.
