    I would look at the Blacksburg and Radford area.
    You should have 4 or 5 public take outs, and it is all quality water.
    If you fish below Claytor Lake, you will have to learn to work with the releases from the dam.
    Just make sure to wear a life vest, the river is not whitewater, but the undertow is very bad and drowns several people each year.

    What type of boat are you going to be bringing to the New River?
    As far as I know, there are no engine limits or size limits.
