New Photo Call

Okay, I didn’t really get what I was looking for for the giant fish images, so I’m going to plan B. Instead of running one shot, we’ll do a collage . The advantage here is that the shots don’t have to be nearly as good, since a collage looks better (and more realistic) if it’s a mixture of species and quality.

So, I’m looking for 5 shots that will run at less than 1/4 page. (Keep in mind that the pay is $50 at that size.) That means they just need to be, say, 5 X 7 at 300 dpi. This ought to open things up to include a lot of shots you wouldn’t have submitted on the previous call.

I’m looking for Really Big Fish, not necessarily world records, but bigger than your average lunker. Open to any species: coldwater, warmwater, saltwater.

Thanks to those who sent stuff. I comb through it all on Monday.

One clarification, though. When I say that I “didn’t get what I was looking for,” that doesn’t mean that the shots I received weren’t great. Many a fantastic photo doesn’t work for a feature-story layout for a variety of reasons. So I didn’t mean to imply that the images weren’t up to snuff. Some were fantastic. It’s just that they didn’t work for the layout, the story itself, or for the editorial mix of the whole issue.
