    Hey guys –

I bought a 2015 4Runner TRD Pro. I am likely to have children during the lifespan of this car so this was kind of my one moment to buy something a little silly, and I went for it. I LOVE IT.

I am going to put a set of those Whispbars on this for my canoe, and luckily it came with a towing package so I’ve already been pulling my Gheenoe around with it. Super great towing vehicle.

Crystal has one similar. Great in the snow, a lot more fun to drive and park in city traffic than my Tundra.
You chose well…it should last forever and has plenty of power for a V6.

That’s my next car. I almost bought one when we moved out to Oregon, but we decided to keep beating up my Mercedes SUV until it dies and get my wife an Audi A3 instead. I was dead set on buying used, but the price on used 4Runners is crazy close to the price of new ones. It seemed stupid not to pay a few grand more for a car that is a few years newer and has no miles on it.

    Zach,

Not sure how silly you want to get but the best accessory I bought for my truck (f150) was the titan rod vault. Love the thing. Drove cross country and kept my 3 fly rods in it the whole time. It will give your truck a new look as many people asked if I had a rocket launcher on my roof….

Wayne I have always just run the rods through inside the vehicle, but that’s a good suggestion. I actually got to take this thing off road this weekend on Forest Service tracks going back into turkey country. It seriously just eats right through anything you throw at it. I didn’t even have to use any of the fancy Crawl Control type things.

I got mine last summer and absolutely no regrets. I went to the dealer to snatch up the last model-year FJ ….but made the mistake of looking at the 4Runner. 🙂

Zach- My first 4Runner was a 2002. Went 212,000 miles with very little maintenance. It was awesome. Replaced it with a (white) 2012 SR5 that came with a luxury package. Entune, heated seats, leather, etc. So far so good. 55,000 maintenance free miles, I average mid 20’s on the highway not pushing it, 19-20ish around town. I think having a truck frame makes a difference. Just swapped out the standard tires (mine were Bridgestones) for a more aggressive Michelin. The standard tires are kind of car tires to keep mileage up.

All I have added are Thule Aero Bars. Very stable and quiet. They raise my Thule box high enough to clear the xm antennae. I put a Rodmounts RodLoft Pro rod holder in. They are good and you can just squeeze in a 9 foot fly rod but it depends on the rod handle how it fits. If you get one, use a little locktite on the screws. They are small and should the holder become loose, fly rod disaster. But mine has been a great addition. Especially because you can ROLL DOWN THE REAR WINDOW and slide them in. The rear window on the 4runner is the only sliding one left in the industry to my knowledge. Some still lift, but none slide down and open. Awesome feature.

Enjoy, it is a great vehicle.
