Been looking to get a camera, never really had a nice one. But I love some of the photos I see on this site. I want something with video as well. Camera will be used for upcoming events (engagement party, honeymoon,) but also want to use for fishing, scenery, ect.

Was looking at the Sony NEX c3 at best buy yesterday, expensive, but seems like a camera that gives dslr like photos with not much work by me.

    Thanks for any advice,
    Doug

I’d look at the Canon s95/s100 or the Olympus XZ-1. The Canons are lighter and smaller. The Olympus has a faster lens.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either, but these smaller cameras have small sensors, so you’ll get a lot of noise in low light.

You can read great reviews here: http://www.dpreview.com

Haven’t used it, but the new Canon G1X looks pretty sweet.  Had a G9 that was great (just broke the motor that extends the lens).  Compared to the old G-series cameras, this thing has a sensor over 6 times the size.  It’s pricey for a non-dslr ($800) and you can’t fit it in a pocket like the s100, but it may be worth a look.

Just keep in mind that cameras do not take good photos.  Its the guy/gal that holding onto the camera that takes good photos.

Thanks for the advice……The canon S95 and S100 look nice and have gotten great reviews, Im trying to now figure out if the sony is still a better buy or should I stick with a pocket size P&S?
