MemberCheck your PM. I gave you a phone # of a Local in Pawley’s Island and a good friend of my father. I have fished with in the past and he can help you out. He is a bait slinger but could tell you everything that is going on and where to go.
Does anyone know a pattern that would look like a Mud Minnow. That is what they use as bait for the flounders.

MemberIt is hard without a boat but I have rented a kayak and a small john boat (cheaper than a guide) and fished the marshy area’s around Pawlys Island which is just south of Murrells inlet. It should be cooling off a little so the sea trout and reds should be moving back into those channels. Or lay a shrimp pattern on the bottom and you can catch big flounder all day any day in that area. That is fun on a fly rod. I got into a bunch of sheapheads in that area one day as well and that was fun.
But is you do this make sure you remember where you are going because those channels all start looking the same.
There are a couple of great bait shops in Pawley as well that will tell you exactly the best places to go. Without motors they are more willing.

Eat a hushpuppy for me. And all the flounder and shrimp you can eat – I cannot anymore due to shrimp allergies. Sad… 🙁
Good info there. I will take my kayak when I go this fall and give it another go. Flounder don’t get the benefit of C&R but I will give ’em a corn meal sweater.

MemberAaron, I would say it is hard to release, sea trout, reds or flounder. It is easy for me now with a developed shrimp allergy. Any thing you catch while fishing that area is like catching MAN bait.
Growing up with a monthly trip with Grand Dad to Steinahatchee Florida made these a staple of my diet. The good thing about fishing for all this, I know what the fish eat and I can manage to get around the Shrimp. I cannot even eat grouper or smoked mullet any more.
Enjoy those flounder, they are as good as it gets. And in that area – they are big – so expect a good fight. Not the fun top water battle but a tugging battle to the bottom – keep the rod tip down because they will snap it. Fun stuff.

Memberwell that secures it, i just called the people at the link provided above, and they said fishing has been great “everything is biting and there is plenty of bait around”, and the rain should not slow anything down this week.
That all means that I will not catch a thing!
I will report the tripi when I return, but dont count on any pictures of fish 😉 :'(Sep 2, 2008 at 1:04 am #28801keith b
