Thanks for the schooling Davy! I still think my scud will beat your scud so I guess I’ll have to come over there and fish side by side with ya for a few days at BSD and we’ll find out.

It does seem to be all about confidence, doesn’t it?

    Mike,

Love to see you here at BSD, your scud versus my sowbug !!

Let me know when conditions are good out your way also, like to get into some of those Stripers out there.
Way it is looking with this cold weather we may well see a shad kill this year, you never know. The lakes are way up at this time and that takes a while before the temps drop down out there.

    Zack,

I do not use eggs myself, l do use other patterns for the same reason, as attractors to another fly. Which is one of the techniques l use for wet fly fishing, its all down to color most of the time related to prevailing conditions and water color.
But it works for sure at times.

I may just do that here pretty soon Davy.

The Striper will be anytime from early Spring (Spawn run) to late Summer. I prefer Summer since the weather is more predictable. Spring is when the record hunters go after them and it can be a little crowded but not too bad usually.

There were Shad coming thru the Dam on the Caney last week. I saw a Crow pick three off the surface but it’s not fully on yet. A Bald Eagle was also watching the river pretty closely but I think he had Trout on his mind. This cold snap should get things moving in the right direction. I was told by a fellow with an underwater camera that there are Walleye in the upper section of the river as long as your leg. He informed me there were fish stacked on top of fish. I plan to spend a little time trying for those guys next trip. A chartreuse and White Clouser fished deep is a Walleyes worst enemy. We spanked the Sauger on them last Spring.

Mike, just keep me informed, if l am not working l can get away at least for a few days. As long as it is above the mid 40s.

You are right a clouser is a dam good fly for Walleye and stripers. l do use them myself in other colors other than C/W. as ; have found on some days the choice does differ.
Just need to get the fly right on the deck for the Walleye.
They work well here on Bull shoals and Norfork lakes.

Dam zone will not open till the Ist Feb, l do not bother to fish it then as it can be like a zoo
