Instead of deer hair I was thinking kind of a large(purple or red) sucker spawn with a stem, has anyone ever tried it.

    Zach,
That’s perfect. I hadn’t thought about green thread on the hook itself, I think I can find something in the kids art stuff to mix for the body. Thanks for the idea.

Mulberry flies, that’s cheating. ;D I like the idea you have Mark. I would tie some that some that float and sink. A important thing to remember is that the carp will being keying on the noise of the berry hitting the water under the tree. You could do what I know some guys do and take some white egg flies and dye them with the mulberry themselves. Not my cup of tea, but I know it works.

Maybe some foam and some big chenille maybe?

I forgot about the sound part, I figured being up stream of the feeding fish and drifting over them would work. It does smack a bit of desperation, but all flies are equal it’s just that some flies are more equal than others. ::)

    Andrew,
Ha Ha Ha. I was actually Fishing for traffic cones and T-shirts but I’m told there is a trophy size pallet in those waters. We’re going back Saturday if your not racing or giving casting lessons.

    Mark,

Have you been able to land one yet? If you have I want to see pictures. I need to go out and pad my stats again, the creeks are actually fishable for once in the past 3 weeks over here.

    A corn kernel fly?

    Mark-

I think there is a tire down by the Rail Road tracks you could fish for as well, river left of the of hole.

And for the record, I was noodling for that pallet!

    Mark,

Sorry I didn’t notice your question till know. Cruisers are difficult to get at times. You really need to be patient with these guys and try putting the fly right on there nose, and change the the fly up a lot till you get it right. I have had times where I had to change the fly 4 times before getting a take.

By the way I got out this afternoon and caught this one in honor of you.

I ended up only land this one and missed 5 others due to break offs. Little ticked at myself right now about it >:(, but can’t complain to much the creeks are actually fishable for once in 3 weeks. Time for me to pad my stats.

None of the major flooding in our area, but the water has been to high to fish the rivers so I’ve been fishing the ponds with my boys for bluegills.

I’d encourage you to tie a range of flies that simulate various “tree droppings.”

Attach a splitshot 6 to 8 inches above a stimulator — it has been one of the most productive carp flies I’ve fished with to date. I spend more time fishing for carp than any other species…..You can’t beat battling a 10 lb jumbo on a 5 weight!

Yip, I like that trick too, with rubber legs. However, I fish it behind a Carp Fritz or above a bugger…

I also use a RAB (check the fly tying section) in the same configuration.

And when there are diving Caddis about, add a little CDC to a Elk Wing Caddis and do the same… the fish take these things on the drop and without a second thought.

5.5kg fish taken on a diving Caddis… and it was the runt of the 4 cruisers I was casting to, the others were 7 or 8 kg’s or more… it shot past the other three and moved about 3 meters to eat the fly, which had landed about 2 feet in front of the biggest one.

    Agree…

And don’t forget the Inch Worms and Saw Fly Lava…
Inch Worm – San Jaun Worm, only green, inch long
Saw Fly Lava – unweighted Caddis, size 14
