Well, being that graduation is just around the corner, a friend and I have decided to fly out to Montana for 2 weeks in August.
Bozeman is north of Yellowstone National Park and within reach of the Madison, Beaverhead, Big Hole, Yellowstone, and several other rivers.
Zach, the Madison is a stones throw from West Yellowstone… in the bigger picture anyhow.
Since you’ll be there in August you absolutely MUST fish the callabaetis for the gulpers on Hebgen Lake. You need an excuse to use those long throws you’re so good at anyhow, don’t you?
Do it! You’ll thank me!Want brookies? Just stop at any of the small streams in the park. We had a hoot nabbing brookies right off the side of the road.
Since you’re coming in from the east you just have to fish the Lamarr Valley. You’ll see it from the road. Cutts up the wazoo and they are big and stupid! Big, ugly foam hoppers seem to work.
Dang Zach… I envy you! I was making plans to go again this August but an offer to go to Argentina instead came up!Zach, it’s funny you mention Yellow Dog, as a good friend of mine used to guide at Breckenridge Outfitters with Ian and Cale. I’ll have to get in touch with my friend and try to hook something up. I’ve made the trip out west when I graduated high school with my school’s fly fishing club (http://www.familytyes.com) and it was truly a blast, and I’m really looking forward to getting out there to hit some new water. It looks like we are going to have great flows too! If you end up in the Lamar valley, be sure to run up the Soda Butte, you won’t be disappointed.
