noneMemberAnyone using a classic reel on a modern graphite rod rather than the flashy reels of today?
I got a Hardy Perfect 3 1/8 inch I think I’ll try with my new Scott G2 905. I think the rather classic looks of the G2 (unlike say the Sage SP series) might go nice with the Perfect.
Anyone else?

MemberWell… there are a few modern classic reels I use on modern line. The Orvis CFO 123, Ross Vision and Charlton 8340C come to mind.
Other than that, a Hardy L.R.H. Lightweight sometimes adorns my 5 weight Winston BIIx.Oct 29, 2006 at 2:12 pm #13698
noneMemberThe CFO I’ll let it pass as a classic reel. Ross & Charlton are modern reels in my books. Nice reels still!

MemberI love older reels. Other than my salt gear, all of my reels are older Hardys, mostly from the Lightweight and Marquis series. I love how they look and sound, and they are good tools, too. Are they built to the tolerances of modern reels? No, but I don’t really care. The only time an old Hardy ever failed me was when I hooked a nice King salmon– on his first run, my St. Aiden pretty much exploded. If I had been using my St. John Mk II, which is more robust and landed many Atlantics for its previous owner, I think I might have been in better shape. That brings up another point– many of the older reels, like my St. John, have a history. I think that is cool.

noneMemberI just got the Scott G2 905 I ordered. Man this thing is a beauty!
I usually use a Bauer M1 for my #4 & #5 rods, but I’ll definately fish with the Perfect as well. It looks very handsome on the G2. A bit like a hot chick in a classic hot rod! ;DJay

noneMemberHardy reels (or Hardy in general) are getting too pricey indeed…
Is it that they are try to make up for the lost years (90’s)?Nov 9, 2006 at 1:14 pm #13705malcolm robertson
MemberIbookje,
I don’t know what Hardy is thinking.Nov 9, 2006 at 1:21 pm #13706Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –
Hardys are some of the only reels that keep long term value and they may just finally be acknowledging that fact.

noneMemberInteresting and weird together Zach.
How can the same reel sell for such a difference in price? Minor differences due to monitary rates is normal but this much?Nov 10, 2006 at 10:12 pm #13709david_dornblaser
MemberWait to you see the 2007 Hardy prices, they are breath taking.

The Itinerant AnglerThese guys used to be the sleeper on the whole planet for buying new Hardy reels:

Unfortunately, it looks like two things have happened.
1) Australian exchange rates have improved to be much closer to 1:1 to the US Dollar (actually, the dollar dropped, but that’s another discussion).
2) Hardy may have found them out; they are no longer selling Hardy.
