Not sure this topic already exists, but hopefully it will result in some nice discussions and pictures.

So, who’s using older classic reels on modern rods?
I think todays reels are more and more looking like bicycle wheels. And they tend to look alike. Too much engineering for fishing conditions/species that don’t need such cork drags etc.

I also love the simple click drag because it sounds like music when the fish takes line. The modern reels are just too quiet!

I have a slight reel fetish. I own a couple of Hardy reels, one stays on a fiberglass rod and one is matched up with a bamboo rod.

Mike B….great to see you showing off your J.W. Young reel and G. I like.

I guess about four years or so I fell off the deep end with fiberglass and vintage clicker reels. Since then I’ve amassed a small collection of Martin and J.W. Young reels along with a bunch of interesting glass.
Here are a few of my favorites on modern fiberglass and graphite…

Edgar Sealey (J.W. Young made reel) on a Japanese Yellow Fenwick four weight with a Booneville Cutthroat.

J.W. Young Pridex and a McFarland Spruce Creek five weight with a Snake River Cutthroat.

J.W. Young Valdex and a Lamiglas Honey Blank four weight with a N.C. Rainbow Trout.

Martin MG-10 on an ECHO Dec Hogan 13 foot Two Hander.

You should snatch the new St George reel that Hardy is making soon.

Those Young reels are pure classics indeed.

Don’t be jealous Juan! You’ll run into a nice reel seat before you know.

Abel reels are obviously great reels. Timeless designs.
