MemberJohn,
I have just recently moved into the near Wausau area so I can give you some insight. The Wisconsin River is home to many smallmouth and some Muskie- I have been working the water some but have not dialed in the Musky yet, but get quite a few smallies.

The Itinerant AnglerI am a fly fishing trout addict and cheesehead. There are lots of great places between Minneapolis and Wausau, as well as going north and northwest. I do all my Wisconsin fly fishing in the Northwest corner of the state(http://www.WiFlyFisher.com). Brad Bohen is the ultimate fly fishing musky fisherman and a great guide. Brad is out of Hayward Wisconsin and his website is: http://www.muskycountryoutfitters.com/. If you want to email me I can give you a lot of ideas and what to check out… john-@-wiflyfisher.com (remove the dashes).

MemberYou can use the 7 – but the 10 is what gets it done. It has more to do with the size of the flies and the all day casting than with the catching. If you book brad he will usually have one for you.
And yeah- the smallie fishing here is incredible. There is a decent chance that you can catch a Muskie while smallie fishing- but as with all things- what you target is what you (usually) get.

MemberBetween the Twin Cities and Wausau, there is an endless amount of fishing. Book a day with Brad or one of his guides for a day.

Memberhey john
i think that there are myriad possibilities for you to look at in this area…depends if you want to be in Minnesota or Wisconsin, both of which are areas I fish a ton in….I agree with Dan too: if you can take a day and hit the driftless area do yourself a favor – it is great.Apr 29, 2010 at 7:37 pm #43286john michael white
MemberNot sure how long we will be in each location…still in early planning stages.

Memberi agree with tim; thirty minutes from twin cities might be tough to get on good water, but if you can drive an hour or an hour and half, you will be in great shape

MemberFYI, GRTU contributed to some stream restoration on Trout Creek, in SE Minnesota that is now great water for brown trout.

MemberWell, it looks like this trip has been bumped for at least a year, as my wife’s friend just started a new job and no vacation time, etc.
I’ll keep this for future reference though 🙂
