We lost our 10-year old standard Yorkie, Digger, earlier this summer to cancer. He was the perfect small companion, seasoned travel dog.

It’s been lonely around the house. Even the cat has been grieving.

We prefer terriers, but wanted to learn a new breed. For my wife’s birthday, we adopted an 18-month old, female Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen (affectionately known as PBGVs). She’s been shown, but is now 100% pet. So here’s Maddy. She’s all hound.

That’s a good lookin’ dog, Scott. How big do you expect her to get? I ask b/c I am also looking for a dog to get my wife, whom speaks of Yorkies constantly. I may have to break down and succumb to her wishes, but for now I am trying to find a less-emasculating breed.

Dusty, she’s full grown and about 27 pounds. The males get a little larger. She has a wonderful temperment. Very gentle. The PBGVs are known for their happy-go-lucky outlook. They were bred to hunt rabbits and drive small game even some fowl in France in tough terrain.

Our Yorky was a standard size. They are getting harder to find as it’s a popular breed and has been bred down in size. He was a sturdy little dog and wonderful personality. Like most terriers however they tend to be a notch or two high on the dog-in-charge scale.
