I just wanted to share a quick trio of photos…

Craig Toms took a series of photos of a flying ant and termite fall on a large still water in the Western Cape…

    Here’s his write up…

Saturday PM saw temps hitting 40deg C in the shade. (that 104F)
Then came a mother of a thunderstorm, which in its wake resulted in a mammoth ant and termite hatch. An hour later the wind had dropped and the lake was smooth as a mirror, but hidden under a layer of wings, ants and termites.
    And the fish ignored them.
It rained most of the night and by the morning there were not so many bugs but the fish were vacuuming them off the surface. There were fins everywhere at first light. Also apparent were rafts of mayfly shucks and spinners that must have hatched in the night.
Killed a fish that got hooked a bit deep and was bleeding. Its gut was STUFFED full of ants, a few termites and mayflies.
    Pics below.

    Here’s the pics…

Were the fish rising or did they gorge out in about 3 minutes?

I’ve seen one hatch like that and it was impossible to catch a fish.

I’ve *created* hatches like that when chumming carp up at the docks in Knoxville.
