I try to polish my photo skills by carefully perusing photo sites like the ones belonging to Denver Bryan, Val Atkinson and of course Zach’s Photoblog 🙂

This past summer, I had the oportunity to fish with Mark Emery on the Naknek River in AK. Mark is a part time guide and full time photographer/videographer. His credits range from National Geo to Discovery Channel. His forte is underwater photography….particularly salmon. Zach…I know you looked at the possibility of doing some underwater photography…..you would enjoy speaking with Mark. He related a story where he was tethered behind his boat in the Naknek in full scuba gear, filming salmon with a $50k underwater video outfit. Off in the distance he sees the front legs of a grizzly working his way toward the salmon Mark is filming. Soon enough, the grizz sticks his head underwater and the camera captures a black nose nudging the lens! Mark said at that point, he released from the tether and quietly floated downstream. Some of this footage is on his website at http://www.markemeryfilms.com . He currently is working on an assignement for Discovery Channel where he is filming grizzlies at Brooks River in Katmai. The show will air this fall and is titled The Carnivorous Earth.

Mark and his wife spends their winters in Ocala where he guides for bass. Anyhow….thought you all might enjoy his photography. I plan to book another trip with him to Brooks Camp in ’08.
