Unfortunately a week ago, my Olympus 720SW of 5 years went south on me.  Great camera that gave many years of good service.  So I went out and replaced it with an Olympus TG-1 for about the same price I paid for the SW720 five years ago.  http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1621.  Sight unseen it showed up from Best Buy last week.

After playing around with it at home on Saturday, I took it out on the river this morning for a few hours to see how it would do.  Still have a lot to learn about it, but the few photos I took seem to bear out the good reviews it gets.  The controls are easy to use one-handed, just need to learn where all the icons are located on the screen and interpret them correctly. It is a tad bit larger and heavier than the SW720 but I didn’t seem to notice that on the river. I think the thing I like about it best is the OLED screen.  It is bright and can clearly be seen with polarized lenses, something I had problems with LED screens.

One of the biggest selling points on this camera is its low light performance so I took it out at dawn. So here’s some the maiden voyage shots I took this morning.  All these are unaltered, right out of the camera. Unfortunately, all the fires have resulted in lots of haze.

Dusty road at the put in immediately after another vehicle passed.  I should have let the dust settle first.

I think I am going to enjoy this camera. 🙂
