Wonder if anyone else has had the same problem? Just found out that my logic board is bad, on my MacBook Pro. I use other puters in Europe but over here I have been using my puter for all of my post processing work. I calibrate often so, I figured that my puter was spot on and that work related conversations about the colour and saturation was due to their monitors being out of calibration. I got this puter new and was very impressed with the graphics, well— now I know them as bad graphics lol.

I used another calibrated computer and noticed that all of my posted and other processed images really look like crap, compared to what they were suppose to look like anyway. Now I hang my head with an extreme embarrassed feeling for posting crap images, critiquing other images and for telling others that they need to calibrate their monitors.. I know that I am responsible for a good number of calibrator sells LOL.

It took me for ever to get this puter and my printer synch and I even had to do some custom settings to get the images to print correctly. Once I discovered the problem, I took the puter to an authorized service center. They decided to try and reset to the default settings and reloaded my OS. In the process, I did get them to back everything up first and load it onto another hard drive, that only cost me $150.00. Needless to say, the colours were still way off.

In the beginning; I had then pull some unprocessed images off of my puter and view them on theirs, the colours were more correct and far different than on mine. I then asked them to hook my puter up to another monitor and sure enough, the colours were just as they are on my display. regardless of this, they decided to replace my monitor and do all of that other stuff, that I had to pay for, just to find out that nothing had changed.

I called Apple back up and the service tech said: Why don’t you just calibrate you computer to one of your prints? Well, even if I could, this would be a career ender as everything that I send in to the publishers would still look like crap and on top of this, YOU CAN NOT custom calibrate a laptop display, it is impossible as they are back lit! I told them that it has to be in the logic board but he said ti would not make a difference and that I would have to find a way to make it work, needless to say, THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN!! He then had me reload the OS again and sure enough, it did not fix the problem.

So, I called back but this time I had the great fortune of talking to a tech that is also a graphic designer. I described my work and problem, as well how I can not settle for this as my puter is useless to me now. She understood completely and explained that it is very hard to get up to the level of talking with the product specialist but that she will make sure that I get in touch with them. Finally success, I got to talk to one of the upper end product support specialist and after telling him everything that we did, he immediately said “You have a bad logic board”. They mailed me a prepaid shipping box and in 7-10 days, I should get to join everyone else with true colour and saturation again ๐Ÿ™‚ Half a month with no CS3 on any of my other PC’s and a dead line on the horizon.. Damned that Murphy dude and his laws ! LOL

Kind of sad though as I always like the bright sage colour that Zack used as a back ground on the BB. That and the forest green trim…That is the colour that it has always been on my puter but on others, I see something completely different ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah I often wonder how my photos look on others peoples monitors. I know when viewing images on the web from work I dont trust anything I see, the graphic card and monitor here are..shall we say suspect.

LMAO ๐Ÿ™‚ Sorry about that, guess I have been talking with the gals to much again lol I’ll go back to computer ๐Ÿ™‚

The calibrators really do work well, I can only speak for the spyderII Pro and the Huey. On a lap top, the calibration is very simple as the only way that you can calibrate the display is by using the automatic function. It really does work well on lap tops and, for publishing, it gets very close to the calibrated monitors that the publishers use.

I am a lot like you John, I have little to no faith in my displays and it is getting to the point that I now have very little faith in my post processed images. On my mac laptop, everything appeared much darker, more saturated and the colours were off. What this means is that on all of my processed images, the final was really more flat, washed out and out of proper colour. The bad thing is this. I have been working very hard on aprox. 600 images for a project that is suppose to be published later this year. I have put a little over 2 months into part of the images and they are ALL way to washed out now. So, I have 2 months of work that I have to do again while trying to meet a deadline. I know that I will still be nervous about the post processing, even after the logic board is replaced though. I looked at some of the images that I posted here on this board, on a couple of other “computers”lol and I was truly embarassed about how badly they looked, I processed them all on the mac and thought that they looked pretty good but I was ashamed when I saw them on a properly working and calibrated computer.

Trust me though, calibrating is not that deficult and I know that there are a lot of horror stories written, by a few users, but I don’t get it as the calibrators are easy to use and follow, if done correctly they can make a big difference. Also, the Baby Huey will automatically adjut your monitor to the ambient light, if left pluged in…
