Looking for a wide angle lens.

I am looking for a good wide angle lens for my canon XTI I just bought. If I could find something good that was used that would be the best. Also any suggestions on a good lens to go with would also be helpful.

How wide are you looking to get?
On my 5Ds, the Canon 17-40 L f/4 is absolutely wonderful. With your 1.6x crop, it may not be wide enough. I have heard some very good things about the Tokina 12-24.

The lens I have looked at and really like was the 17-85mm with image stabilazation. That lens is about $485 which is more in my price range, but I am always looking for a deal. I have a tough time paying full price on things after getting such great deals on just about every sporting good item there is because I am a guide. I will check out the two lens that you mentioned and see if they are what I am looking for.
