Andrew Wright and I took another stab at the Flint River this morning; still blown out from last week’s 4″ of rain, I’m afraid. I’m doing an article on shoal bass and these rains are messing up my schedule pretty bad.
Anyway, check this out!

According to Wikipedia, this is a female dobsonfly, the adult of the hellgrammite larva. You can tell she’s female by her “short” pincers, which were still as big as toothpicks. I saw her struggling on the water and we rescued her.
Adult dobsonflies sadly live only about a week after emerging, so she’s not long for this world anyway, but I still thought this was really cool.
That fly, by the way, was the biggest I had; this thing was probably over four inches long.
