The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –
A bit of a promo for my newest article, which I don’t usually mention here. The reason I’m bringing it up is that I’m kind of proud of something about this one: I did the graphic design on the opener (at least, on the background image). Check it out when you get a chance.

MemberI was going to call you out for misspelling ‘stomping ground’, but after a Google* search it appears ‘stamping ground’ and ‘stomping ground’ are interchangeable. Must be a souther freaker thing.
*From hotspotting tool to dictionary…is there anything Google can’t do? 😉

The Itinerant AnglerAha, and yet, you seem to have caught our website lady in a typo, since I also say “stomping ground” (at least, whenever I am directing the masses to your favorite secret hotspot, of course).

The Itinerant AnglerHey Tradd –
You write it and I’m sure someone (Southwest Fly Fishing, maybe) will publish it. That’s not my bag, and it’s not what this article’s about. 😉
By the way – walrus?

The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –
If anyone is interested in how I made that graphic, I guest posted over on the PhotographyBay.com blog about it.

David AndersonMemberThat’s cool Zach..
I was trying to figure out how to get that 3D view in Google before you posted the photographyblog link… ;D
I’m using a handheld GPS and google a bit now – it’s such a great resource for fly fishing.

MemberZach – I am glad you did this article. For those who have not used a GPS before, let me tell you they are awesome. I went fishing with Zach last fall in the mountains in some seriously tough terrain and tight little brook trout streams. We only had basic directions on how to get to the spot and all along Zach was using his handheld GPS to get us there. But that’s not the half of it. Once we finally descended to the river we ended up hiking in a long way and then muddling around for a while. By the time we got back to the original spot we had a long climb up hill back to the car. Using the GPS, he was able to locate the car and we where able to make it out.
I am now a true believer in these little gems and I want one. It has moved way up on the “I-WANT” list.

MemberI understand what you are saying Mike but that is not really what I was talking about. In the N. Georgia/N. Carolina brook streams you are often hiking in way off the trail to find the fishing holes – with all the rotadendrums and steep hills you can get lost pretty quickly. That can be pretty scary stuff to say the least. For me the GPS would offer a guide to get you back on track. And . . . I would love to mark my spots for when I return the next time because often things look vastly different from summer to fall to winter.

MemberOk, So are we for GPS or against? You see, I have my eye on a Garmin and …

John BennettMemberI will be adding a GPS one day.
Not because I fear getting lost. I’ve been in some remote area’s in my life and while I have gotten turned around, and have spent many hours trying to get back, knowing the lay of the land and a compass has always gotten me out….eventually1st rule of survival is keep your wits.
I’d like to add a GPS for 1 simple reason. On the way back after a long day working my way in, I want to fly like the crow and take the direct route out. Wihtout a GPS Id not do that, unless Im intimately familiar with the area. Your just begging to add hours to the journey.
Grats Zach, the graphic turned out really well.

MemberSince some of you guys are also Nikon shooters, you should consider this little item:
http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product/Miscellaneous/25396/GP-1-GPS-Unit.html
That way, you can attach it to your camera with an MC-35 GPS cable and have the exact location of each photo you have taken as you get lost with Neal and Zach in the rhododendrons.
