Would you go with a RIO Gold or lesser priced line? I have RIO Gold on my lighter line rods.

Setting up a spool/line just for yard work. Wondering about the life of a line on grass.

As long as it is grass and not concrete I would use whatever line I intended to fish with.

I plan on living forever, so far so good.

I’d go with the cheapest line you can find.

There are many different lines to choose from, all with varying bellies, head lengths, etc. I would suggest using the same line as what you fish with since we practice to master our equipment and technique. How can you do that if you go and change any part of your equipment when it’s time to put it to work under actual fishing situations?

I nurse my lines along for as many days on the water as I can. I cast them on the grass, but clean and treat them every 4/5 trips out as well. I have a rio gold that should be replaced, but if I clean and treat it I can get 2 trips out of it. So I like what Ralph is saying about keeping the set up the same. I also like a DT on my 4wt and lighter rods, they roll cast very nice and they last twice as long… 😉

I agree with Ralph. Additionally, cheap lines can be frustrating to use.

Grass will probably wear out your line a little faster than water, but using the same setup for the lawn and on the water is definitely a plus. I cast quite a bit on grass and generally get a year or so out of a line- although I have worn one out in a few months when I was hitting it really hard.
