I have heard more answers than I can count about this topic, so I thought I would try it on you guys.

I feel like muted line colors are more effective.

I agree.  In my experience it definately makes no difference for salmon or stripers.  I also think that it makes no difference for trout as well, although there are those who disagree.  I think that your fly choice, approach and presentation are much more important.

I’ve caught plenty of trout salmon and stripers with line colours that ranged from camo to bright orange.

You guys should spend some time underwater looking up next time you are in a pool or lake.

I tend towards muted colors when fishing mainly to avoid spooking fish when the line is out of the water during false casts.
When practice casting the brighter the better.

I don’t know about the fish, but I have to use bright colored lines to see them.

Hey dunfly I notice your avatar is a corgi pup. Do you have a corgi I assume? We have 2. One of them is 15 years and still going strong – stone deaf though. Wonderful dogs.

I suspect a bright yellow line would blend in *better* than a dark brown one.  Zach

Most of the muted-color lines aren’t dark – they tend to be light colors, but just in a muted pastel shade instead of a fluorescent shade.

In New Zealand, the olive green color lines are the standard, if you show up with anything else, they either change it out or dye it.

I like the “willow” color lines offered by Scientific Angler.

I am also partial to the willow colored SA lines…as well as the light and dark grey colors that SA offers.

I also like SA Willow, although I recently bought a GPX line that was optic green.

Have any of you guys had a problem with the tip sinking on your SA GPX line?

I’ve had good luck with my GPX and SA Trout lines, and have not noticed any tip problems.

I’ve had problems with the tip sinking on my 3wt SA line, but I’ve always suspected the loop-to-loop connector may be to blame.
