The Itinerant AnglerRobert –
Was that National Geographic article using tintypes your work?

Ben CochranMemberI haven’t tried the beta but I am curious about what is new on the post production side, seems that most will appear in ACR and am curious about what may appear with CS5.
Hey Bob, glad to see that you made it over here! Great group of folks on this forum and the fly fishing related photography is fantastic. Nervous about shooting more river scenes with you, as we seem to bring buckets out of the sky LOL turned my 70-200 into a canteen. 😉
Welcome to the forum!

Ben CochranMemberZach, I didn’t mean to ignore you, just letting Bob answer for himself. I did want to mention that I too enjoyed the article and his cover shot was really cool, as well.
I have to chuckle, when I hear people complain about how heavy their camera and lenses are, then there is Bob and his wagon sized compact box

MemberBy the way, one of the functions I really like in Lightroom is the Fill Light option.

MemberStarting to really like Lightroom 2 more and more since coming over to it from ACR – but the day it loads up and generates previews as fast as the old RawShooter programme did, then it will be as close as possible the complete RAW processor for me.

MemberThere is usually a pretty good buzz about a revision of this magnitude but that dosen’t seem to be the case for L3. This may due to the depressed economy and poor sales in the photo market. The only area that is holding its own is wedding photography. That would be good news for Lightroom due to the large number of market specific presets that are available. Many people may well be suffering from update saturation! It just takes to much time to try everything thats new and I haven’t heard a thing about L3 that make me want to try it yet.
PhaseOne Capture Pro 5 just came out and I would like to try it. Mostly because it is so widely used in my market segment. Aperture 3 is just around the corner and as a current Aperture user I hope its a really good upgrade. I have never liked the Lightroom interface. If anyone tries it especially a current L2 user post you impressions.

MemberDavid – I just today tried LR3 beta – I’m immediately impressed. It does some things that it never did before at all, and it’s zipping.
Eric – I’ve found it works much faster on a newer machine. (like “duh” right? heh) … but I’m curious; do you have all your files in a huge directory, or is each import loaded into a folder by date? If you’re working with HUGE folders, that’ll slow it down for sure, so by date is the way to go.
If you don’t have it yet, you can rebuild your catalog that way – just import, but use the “leave in place” option, and also make sure you’re importing it using the “dated” option.

MemberThe thing i don’t like in this Beta is that i can’t use the LR2 catalogs, i can’t even start LR2 anymore. This means i have to reimport everything and do the same work on every photo i allready did in LR2.
As a fresh start i think LR3 is great and the new options are useful, as an upgrade it is to much work now.

MemberHuh?
Olle – something has gone awry here, as there should be an issue for you. I can even run both concurrently.
It’s true you have to rebuild catalogs, but you should still be able to start LR2.

MemberHmm then i have to try and reinstall LR3 again. Having them both on my laptop caused LR2 to crash at the splash screen.
I’ll try installing LR3 on my D: drive.

John BennettMemberQuestion for lightroom users.
I like CS ( ACR and photoshop), but am not happy with bridge. Have been wondering whether to start using LR or wait for CS5. For those of you using LR and ACR as your raw converter, do you find you still use PS? I guess what Im driving at is keeping both LR and PS current would become prohibitively expensive.

I have yet to speak with a single photographer who has started to use LR as it was designed who hasn’t later raved about the fact that it works like a photographer works.
CS is for designers, LR for photographers.
That’s my take anyway.
