Steve K.MemberWith the recent mention of the Dehavilland Beaver in another thread…..I thought I’d start a separate thread here. The Beaver always seems to be the subject of numerous outdoor photographers….especially when it comes to fishing in Alaska. I enjoy flying in them as well as photographing this vintage aircraft. They often are the highlight of my Alaska trips. Please post ’em if you’ve got ’em. I’d like to see how you all incorporate them into your photos. Here are a few of mine:
Talkeetna Air Taxi – Ruth Glacier, Denali National Park

Branch River Air Service – Naknek River, King Salmon, Alaska

Van Hartley – Branch River Air Service – somewhere over the Alagnak River, Katmai National Park, Alaska

Talkeetna Air Taxi – Talkeetna, Alaska

Katmai Air – Brooks Camp – Katmai National Park

A few Beaver tidbits…..The DeHavilland Company was purchased by Viking Air of Victoria B.C. Viking currently manufactures a limited supply of replacement parts. DeHavilland named its aircraft after animals….hence the Beaver. The larger version is known as the Otter.
Here’s a neat website where the author is attempting to account for all 1692 Beaver aircraft. You can see which ones are unaccounted for, still in services, crashed, etc.

MemberGreat thread.. Love that shot with the bears and the first shot with the skis!
Flying in a Beaver over Alaska was one of the best experiences I haver had! The memory has always stuck with me and I took quite a few photos. I’m heading back next summer and the flight is one of the things I am looking forward to the most!
Here is the Beaver we flew in http://www.dhc-2.com/cn1237.html
Beaver before us coming in for a landing. I loved the guy in the boat out there with the planes.

MemberThese are cool photos. I like the one with the Hartzell propeller in it. Hartzells are made right up the road from me, and I have a friend who is a crash site investigator for them. Thanks for the cool photos.

MemberGotta love a friendly (and capable) pilot.
Great site too! Again I’m looking forward hangin’ around here and living vicariously through your photos and stories minus the baggage found elswhere online. Kudos! Cheers! Plus feedback on these images I’ve had laying around for years (and thinking about printing, see my flikr page) would be good coming from objective fisherbrethren like yourselves.
Thanks again!

MemberReally nice pics, Doug. I enjoyed them. I especially enjoyed the fly fishing pictures on your flickr page. All of those loook like they could be the cover of a fly fishing mag or in a gear catalog.
Welcome. I look forward to learning from your input on this board.
