Spent the last week up in Yosemite National Park with my girl friend Brigitte and baby Landon. I had visions of fly fishing everyday on the Merced River and hooking you guys up with some fish porn, alas I got the big skunk on the two half days of fly fishing on the Merced. One of the days was spent near El Portal in really hot day time temps with black flies attacking my face. The water was nice and cool and there were plenty of fish in the deep pools that I could see, it was just that the fish did not want any of my offerings. It was still great to get on the water.

Here are a few shots of the area I fished near El Portal.

The Merced River was right next to our camp, I tried this spot for a some really nice looking fish, these trout were lock jawed as well.

This was our home away from home for the short time we spent in Yosemite. It’s a cool area if you’re not into the camping thing, the Housekeeping tent cabins have actual beds.

This bridge was just a few hundred feet from our camp.

I found myself sitting at the table reading about things to do while in the park, well I sure found a few things to do. One was drinking beer and photographing the local wildlife.

    Big buck

    Local Hopper

The ground squirrels were relentless at trying to get to our food. If you walk away for a few seconds they were on your grub like flies on …. well you guys know.

There were four mallards that stayed in the same section of the river throughout our entire stay. They were all hens I believe, similar to the one below.

Oh and I saw my first ever Praying Mantis in the wild, cool insects. I moved him off the trial onto the meadow so that it would not be stepped on.

At night I did my best to try and capture the night sky. The photo below is from our camp. The light in the trees is light pollution from campfires and a other lights.

These shots of Half Dome were taken from Sentinel Bridge.

Yosemite is an absolutely beautiful place, but is pretty much a bust for fishing.

Bummer about the fishing, but at least it was a skunk in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
I really like the El Capitan and Half Dome photos. The night time shot from the valley is dope.
