Late March, Trout, within 10 hrs of St Louis???

Plan on camping, want to be reasonably comfortable (like above 30* lows at night).
Did mapquest for Gatlinburg TN and that was 9 hrs. Seems like the Smokies would be a good bet?
North Fork of the White is nice too, but I am sure SMNP is going to be much prettier.
What would you do?
Colorado is in July for me this year.
Fishing in the Smokies has been spotty at that time of year, at least from my experiences. And, it wouldn’t be uncommon to see the day time temperatures not get out of the 30s. The AR tailwaters, on the other hand, are usually ramping up around then.
I would do AR in late March; and, next time around, plan to do GSMNP in late April or early May.

Excellent advice from Bryan. You could have heavy rains, snow, freezing temperatures or all of the above in the GSMNP that time of year. AR would be good.
Late March will be blown in the Smokies unless you get a string of warm days and the Quill Gordons start coming off, but that’s kinda early, I think.

I fished the Norfork and White last March, week 2 and while the weather was less than ideal, sleet one day, cold the rest, the fishing was really good. What’s nice about the area is that if they are running water on one the other may be off, and when they turn on the White, you still have a few hours to head down river and fish. You may have to spend some time in the car, but that’s not always bad that time of year. Make sure you have a portable coffee maker in the car, too. On your way from St. Louis make sure to check out the River of Life Farm on the North Fork in Missouri. That time of year there are some real hungry fish. I was making my way from St. Louis to Birmingham last spring on a job change, so I was able to hit a lot of water between March 15th and April 15th.
I tried to fish GSMP week 3 march last year and it was totally blown out. Rained the entire 4 days there. Week 2 April was like night and day, and I would highly recommend. I think I filed a report on both. Good luck.<'))))><
