Been a faithful Ross Evolution user and still love them, never liked the older Lamson reels, but the newer Litespeed and Force ULA are catching my eye.

Got any opinions? Will be putting the reel on a #5 rod, looking at Litespeed #2 or Force 2X LT or 3 LT

Have a ULA 2x mated to Scott S3 5 wt and love it. Drag is silky smooth and performance is great. The light weight is a bonus to balance off the set-up. I would recommend going with gel spun backing as normal backing adds a little too much bulk to the spool with a WF setup.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one.

I will put my vote in for the Bauer M2 (superlite), though I don’t see too much support for them on this site.

We sell Lamson Reels at the shop I work in. Man, they are machined like Swiss Watches! The new “ALOX” coatings they are using are incredibly tough and durable! I’m liking them more and more. (I used to think they were a little too “high-tech” looking.)

I have a Lamson Lightspeed 3.5 on one of my 8wt’s and I use a Lamson Radius 1.5 on my 4wt.

I have had my Force 2/2X LT for a while now and have loved it from day one. I mainly fish mine on a 4 wt and love how light and tough it is.

I have a Lightspeed 3.5 and I also have an Evolution. Both are nice reels. I have heard 2 complaints about Litespeed’s. First – some of the older models do not have stainless steel one way roller clutches. Occasionally they would give up big time and go into a free spinning mode. If you contact Lamson, they will send you stainless roller clutches for older models. I think the new ones are annodized red

    Hey guys,

    I have had a Lamson LP 1.5 that I bought approx. 4 years ago for a 3wt.

I’m relatively new to fly fishing, but have rods ranging from 2-8 wt and Velocities to match, (actually I have a Lightspeed for the 8 wt, which I prefer to the Ross Cimmaron that I started with).
