MemberFlyfishing for stripers in Maine made me realize that I should probably add an 8 weight to my collection. I already know what Scott rod I want, but I’m thinking about what reel to get. During the trip to Maine I borrowed a friends Lamson/Waterworks ULA reel. I liked the reel. I currently have Ross reels, which I like…but thinking about expanding my horizons.
My price point in the Lamson line would be the Guru or the Konic..both of which appeal to me. I’ve looked them over at the local shop and they seem pretty well made.
Any thoughts or experience with these?
Thanks!

MemberI’ve got konics on both my 3 and 5 weight, you will get more than your money’s worth in performance with these reels.

MemberI have both Konics & a Guru. They are both great reels and I feel they are a great value. Figure out which one balances best with the rod you will be using it with. I have found that the Konics balance best with my rods (Winston BIIX) rather than the lighter Guru.

MemberI’ve had a lot of my charters show up with Lamsons over the years and never heard a single complaint or seen one fail in any way.

MemberAll the newer Lamson reels have a sealed drag that is incredibly smooth and zero maintenance.

MemberI have the litespeed 3 and 3.5, awesome reels for the money. Reccommend the litespeed of velocity for the salt. You have to rinse them when your done fishing the salt though. I had the handle on the one freeze on me from using it in the salt, easily fixed.

The Itinerant AnglerCameron –
Good reels – the Hard Alox coating is everything they advertise it to be (so rare in fly fishing).

Mike – I just glanced at your photo over there and I thought you were Cameron – you might need to take that up with him for stealing your look.
