MemberAnyone have a Lamson Konic? Impressions? I have a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket. Looks like a good reel at a good price.

Bob RigginsMemberI’m a big fan of Lamson reels, and I’m sure the Konic is OK.

Memberearlier in the year I looked at the Konic for a scott rod I bought but knowing that I tend to drop things on occassion made me upgrade to the radius which I have been very happy with over the past year. The konic being cast is what scared me due to the fact that machined aluminum will dent/scar is dropped but my experience w/cast anything is that it will break/crack if dropped.

MemberThanks for the input all. Ben you hit it on the head for me – I’m worried about it being cast too. I have ruined one cast reel by dropping it yet I’ve dropped my Teton (machined) reel a couple of times (on pavement) over the years and it was barely scratched. I was hoping that the Konic being “pressure cast” and machine finished meant it was close to as tough as a fully machined reel? But maybe not.

MemberI have two Konics – one for my 5 and one for my 8. I’m only in my third year fly fishing, but for me, they have been better than expected. I’ve used them here in Texas, in the salt for Tarpon and Bluefish, and for big trout out west. Love the drag and am fairly hard on them with no noticeable damage except for a few scratches here and there. They are lightweight and, in my opinion, decent looking as well.

If you’re in the market for a machined reel you may take a look at the new Lamson Guru. I don’t know much about it, but after my experience with the Konic, I wouldn’t hesitate to check it out. Hard to beat the price of the Konic, though.

MemberI bought one last weekend and used it on Sunday. Seems like a great reel. Balances my Sage perfectly and looks good doing it. And hands down the best drag I’ve ever used or even seen. I think Lamson’s conical drag is not just hype.
So my old Teton is going to be relegated to backup status.
Thanks for all the input.

MemberI bought a Konic for my TFO Pro 8wt. I will definately be looking at the Konic line again for my next reel. Lot’s of bang for the buck in my opinion.
