Do any of you guys have any experience with the Lamson Guru?
I am intrested in this reel but I can only find the company’s literature on it.
    Thanks

Keith I have a Guru on a Winston BIIX 4wt rod and really like it. It is really light weight and the drag on it is super smooth and easy to adjust. It is one of two Lamson reels that I own. I also have a lightspeed that I use on my 8wt for steelhead fishing.

    Keith,

I don’t have a Guru specifically, but I do have a couple of Lamsons and absolutely love them.

Ditto, have a few lightspeeds and velocities and they are bombproof and great looking. I would reccomend over the loop

Thanks for all of the responses.
I think what I am gathering from my two threads is that there are not many people using the Loop reel.

I have heard people say the weight of the Lamson is key to the love of that reel, but in a side by side (internet comparison) the Loop is only.49 oz heavier.

That weight difference would barely be noticeable, and I would also keep in mind what rod you’re putting the reel on.  If the rod is relatively heavy its nice to have a little extra weight on the reel to balance it.  On the contrary, if the rod is really light (a helios for example) its nice to get a really light reel to best balance the rod.  Unless you’re fishing the lightest of rods, I wouldn’t use a 10% weight difference as the sole reason to choose one reel over the other.

I’m not sure what you’re looking to use this 6 weight for, but keep in mind that it’s very infrequent that you need 100+ yards of backing.  Honestly, I can’t think of any freshwater situation that you would need that much backing.  Definitely not for trout, bass, etc.  Carp can run you well into your backing, but 100 yards is a hell of a long way.  If you’re using it for salt, that’s a different story.

Good luck.  I’m sure you’ll be happy with whichever one you choose.

    That is a nice picture!

I would be using it mostly for fresh water, as I live in salt water deficient Atlanta ;), but I will be buying it in hopes of using it in the salt a few times a year.

I really need a job that willl pay me to fish salt water, and still pay me for my degrees ::)

I decided to go with the Loop Evotec G3 5/7 right, and it came in a couple of days ago.
    It is spectacular.
