If you had to choose one fixed focal length lens to use what would it be and why? just one fixed focal – no zooms…

A fast 50mm on a film SLR or a fast 35 mm on the DSLR, for an equivalently “nomal” field of view and the ability to creatively control depth of field.

Second: a wide angle for crisp landscapes.

400mm F2.8 (auto focus w/ ability to manual focus)

The thing would be used like a canon and get me up close and personal for some animal close-ups.  Got to have one……………eventually…………

(I just “won” a manual focus Sigma 400mm f5.6 and reserve the right to modify my pick after I use this slower lense.)

Yea i think i m with you zack if i could only use one lens it would have to be a 50mm f1.2. i didnt specify film or digital – im not that far in the future yet. i wish i was. i could probably buy a dslr and save money on processing in the long run.
