MemberHey Dan,
You can’t attend a course to get an FFF certification if that is what you are referring to. By the FFF guidelines, someone who coaches you can’t test you for the cert. So you take the course to prep and test at a later date.
That being said, prep courses are really good and the Wulff school is one of the top schools. Sheilla Hassan teaches there and she is excellent. She and her husband are both Master CCIs. They also offer CCI prep courses in MA. Floyd is really good too. Not to mention Joan is an MCI as well.
If you are thinking about getting FFF certified, I would go to the FFF website and download the Performance Test and practice it. You can also find current instructors in your area that I am sure would help you prep (might end up being cheaper – but a school would be more fun!).
If you aren’t talking FFF then what I just said, doesn’t matter. I would add this just as food for thought: Every school’s teaching methods are a little different. It is important while in instructor mode to remember that. There are a lot of different ways to get at casting and it is really fun to learn from them all. No one school will give you all the answers, but it can be great fun collecting all those nuggets of wisdom out there.
Let me know if you have any specific questions. I know a couple of other gents on this board are certified too.

MemberI’ll take from Rich’s lead that you haven’t gone done the FFF path yet.

Michael PhillippeMemberMany years ago I thought about making the effort to get FFF certified — then I went fishing instead.
However, I will say that the Wulff School is a wonderful experience. You stay at the Beaverkill Valley Inn about a mile down the upper Beaverkill from Joan’s home and the school.
I was there several years ago when Joan was still actively teaching so I feel somewhat blessed to have had her personally yell, “No! No! No!” at the sight of my cast.
If you get a chance (and can afford it) go!

MemberI’ve taken all of Joan Wulff’s courses – Trout School, Casting School and her Instructors School. All are great and highly recommend them. And, I can’t say enough about Sheila Hassan. Shortly after taking the instructor school, she became my mentor and personally prepped me in becomming a FFF CCI. She, and her husband Bill, are excellent casters and instructors.
Just to clarify though . . . as far as the Wulff schools go, they are not “billed” to specifically prepare you to take the FFF CCI test. It’s an excellent casting school which, in turn, will certainly help prepare you become a better caster and I highly recommend them.
