The LAST thing I need is to spend more time on an internet fly fishing site…but, I tore through every single podcast in about two days when I discovered them, and then I read with pleasure the thread on “school vs. fishing” (something I struggled with for a long time), so I decided this site seemed like a worthwhile way to avoid yet even more work.

Just wanted to take the time to introduce myself..

I originally from Indiana, went to college at Indiana University.

Let’s see if I can post some pictures…

(By the way, is there an established way to add pictures?

Anyway…thats one helluva bluefish!  Nicely done.

Most of the schooling was out of the way before the kids came, fortunately!

And the bluefish – it bent my hook, but fortunately, not all the way.

Thanks for the tip Zach.  I’ll see if I can get an image to display properly via that route:

My best striper last year (38 inches).

Welcome to the madness Doctor Drew!

More than a few wooden boat owners here. Throw up a photo of the pram if you get a chance.

Nice to meet you Andrew. I am from Indiana and went to IU as well. I miss the Blue Bird, Nicks and the Runsible Spoon.

If you ever get back to the Hoosier State, let me know and we can chase some fish.

    Hi guys,
while we are in introductory mode, I’d like to introduce myself.

I’m Andrew Bell from the South East coast of Aussie about 3 hrs south of Sydney.

I’m mainly a trouty although I am heading for New Caledonia next week to try and bag some South Pacific Bones…..

Our trout fishery here has had it tough in the last few years as we have been in drought on & off for quite a while now, but things are looking up with a great summer just passed and loads of autumn rain at the moment.
I just had a trip up to the Murrumbidgee river in our Snowy mountainscamping with my boys and there were plenty of small rainbows , up to 15″ about so fun was had by all.

Above is actually the stretch of the river where the World champs were held when they were last down here, mid 90’s I think.

I also have a little house near Gore and the Mataura River in Southland at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand , about 3 hrs flight from sydney and have been fishing there regularly for the last 7-8 years. as you probably know the fishing there can be sensational.

How is your season shaping up over there?
There is a possibility that I may have a couple of weeks to kill in late June after taking my daughter to Summer Camp in New York State, so I’m putting some feelers out for a bit of general info to assist me with planning a trip.

I would be happy to share info with anyone wanting to know about Aussie or NZ fishing in return……
So what do you say ??

    😮

Andrew, I just finished reading Bill Bryson’s Australia book on a plane flight – he says the SE corner of the country is really lovely.

Andrew…what camp will your daughter be going to in NYS?  There are some real good ones up there…looking forward to those days in a few years!

Things in NY are just now starting to heat up.

    Morning all.
Zach, yes it is a beautiful part of the country and a little more drought proof than some areas.
I am lucky to have a trout stream an hour away and yet still live on the coast.

I can leave home here at 5am drive, fly & drive and be fishing in between Dunedin & Gore in NZ by 4 pm, so I would say that that is pretty easy 🙂 Flights are between A$ 350 & 600 return.

I am not sure of the actual camp name , Alice knows it no doubt, but I have to get her to NYC by 21st June & then I plan to fly to Wisconsin and meet a friend for a few days fishing and then head west from there.

Tim thanks fro the heads up re NY, I may be tempted to linger there a little.

Now living in Connecticut, doing post-doctoral research at Yale University.  Now I’m 10 minutes from large striped bass and bluefish, my primary targets these days.

We Connecticut striped bass fisherman are takin’ over this here site. 😉

Welcome Andrew. We ply the same waters (and boards).

    You!?

Good to see another brine striper fanatic on here.

Hey Zach, they go to Tasmania first 🙂

For mainland Aussies, Tasmania is the Montana of fly fishing (2hr flight), NZ trips used to be like going to Alaska (a lot longer haul) but there was a bunch of cheap airfares to NZ over the last year, causing terrible whining by the Kiwis as the aussies invaded.

    Sound familiar lOL

    Cheers
    Steve
