With the holiday shopping season underway I’d just like to remind everyone (especially if you are just beginning) to please, please, please know who you’re buying your photo gear from.  This isn’t much of an issue if you shop at a brick-and-mortar store, but be wary shopping online.

IF A DEAL SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE…

… it probably is.  There are a ton of shady online electronics stores that are nothing short of a scam.  And their rating from eBay, ShopCartUSA and others isn’t always a reliable way to determine a company’s legitimacy.

IF YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF WHOM YOU’RE BUYING FROM…

… there’s probably a reason for this.  Many of these fly-by-night outfits stay under the radar for a reason.  You owe it to yourself and your credit to check up on the retailer you’re planning on buying from.  One good site with a ton of feed back is:

    http://www.resellerratings.com/rlist-s1-n2.html

Please, buyer beware.  There are a ton of horror stories on resellerratings.com and photography-specific forums.  Protect yourself.  This extends to most big-time electronics purchases.

That said, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and continue to chase fish and see the world through 31mm f/1.8 eyes.

I had a few friends get scammed. Like not getting all of the things that would come in the box if you bought it from a reputable source. Things like batteries, battery chargers, or they will give you the run around when they don’t deliver. I buy some glass on eBay, but I love our local camera store and I always get great service and access to used glass when I go in.
