I read alot but don’t post. I’m breaking my silence.
I caught a 15-pound or better brown trout today in the Salmon River in New York.

    I’m just a bit stoked.

Damn bro, I’d be proud too. I would also be sending those numbers to my local fiberglass replica artist. That is one certifiable HAWG! Congrats.

    Hey Lee,
We are all to young to have a bucket list! Nonetheless, a gorgeous fish.

I’ve been fishing the run for the past 7 or 8 years and do love it. It’s not for everyone because the crowds are unruly and you really fish elbow to elbow. We fish in the private area and it helps some, but anybody with $30 can get in there.

When I hooked the fish it felt a lot different than the salmon and steelhead. I knew it wasn’t a salmon but it bent the hell out of the nine weight.
We didn’t know it was a brown unti netting time. My buddy – dude in the photo – said holy crap that’s a brown and promptly missed the first swipe with the net. He got it the second time and we yelled Brown to our guide Lou and he came running.

The day was nutty. We hooked more trout than salmon and landed our fair share of nice steelhead. We also caught a 10-pound lake trout which is a rarity.

There were reports this year of two atlantics in the 12-pound range. I caught one in September about three years ago that went about 8 pounds. We didnt do as well today, but i did get another big steelhead.

We stretched a piece of mono to get the dimensions for a fiberglass mount. The tape was broke. I think I just got a new wish list for Santa.

That’s a great brown! I’m in Rochester and I don’t get up to that river nearly enough! Hopefully soon!
