Not as much of a bummer as it could be.

I headed to the Clinch this morning to do some field testing on flies I’ve been tying after reading through Modern Midges.

    Abe –

You may have been the victim of a change in the weather.

I have an older Scott G series rod that they have replaced twice because of a ferrule issues. I assume you have the Scott internal ferrules as well.

However, Zach is right. Most of the problems are becasue we forget to check the alignment and snugness of the ferrules during a fishing day. Why do you think spey dudes always tape their joints…

Sorry for the bad luck dude, I have had the same misfortune a few times myself. I find bigger rods with sinking type lines require regular checks, and if not, you better bring a couple of extra rods 🙂

You may have been the victim of a change in the weather.  Whenever you start out cold and the day warms up a lot, as it does this time of year, you should re-seat your ferrules a couple times a day.  The heat will typically make the outermost layers expand first and that will make the outer female ferrule tend to loosen.  I usually notice because the guides also twist out of whack and I can feel the line dragging.

Well, dadgum, I learned something new

I broke a rod (Winston BIIt) a couple years ago in much the same way.

Sorry I know how you feel. I broke my helios about a month ago while fighting a brown, and z-axis snapped mid-cast over the summer. Bothe were new rods (helios was 3 days old, z-axis was 2 months old). Thank god for warranties huh?
