Thought I’d share this here. Some of you have probably seen it on FB, so my appologies. I’ve wanted to do/get this (or similiar) shot for a long time. Finally had the chance to do it on the weekend.

What I had long envisioned was a shot of hunter at sunrise where I could position the rising sun over and behind his shoulder and set my aperture for maximum sun flare. If you super impose a grid you’ll notice the sun is on/near the upper left intersection and the hunter and the shotgun near the bottom right intersection.

As I was watching the sun rise, I asked and got permission to try the shot…When I do these things successful hunts come first, pics second. Every minute spent setting up and out in the open risks busting the hunt. Once the sun was high enough for what I had in mind I said “if I dont do it now, I’ll lose the opp once its a bit higher”..Thankfully the gobblers werent really active at that point and he gave me the green light.

Couple quick meter readings, postioned my strobe where I wanted it so as to cast sidelight and create/leave some shadows, a quick adjustment to its output, then step out and fire a few quick shots before I’m busted.

May play with it in PS some, this is just a quick edit pretty much straight out of camera. And will definately seek to improve on it if chance allows (would have loved another strobe and an umbrella) but its one of those you have in mind, waiting for the day/opportunity to pull it off.
