I wanted to get back to this thread last night, but a few phone calls happened. And what looks like a new transmission in my truck >:(.

Sorry about this.  We picked up our newly transied SUV last night to the tune of $2500.  I only mention this to make you feel better–surely your truck will be cheaper than this.

I learned a lot looking at that site.  That bottle does indeed claim to remove just about everything.  I also checked out the claims for the filter I’ve been using for years–PUR Voyager (now the Katadyn Hiker).  I recalled correctly–my filter only makes a hard claim to physically remove organisms from the water.  But it does claim to “reduce” chemicals.  The bottle seems pretty interesting.

I am not certain about needing a new one, it’s being dropped tomorrow. So a clutch replacement is definite. They’ll be inspecting the trans then. I am assuming it will need rebuilding or replacing. I called the local Toyota dealer: $2400 for a new in the box trans. I have not looked yet, but a rebuilt one should be about half that.

Either way, it sucks. But hey, I’ll go fishing this weekend and try not to think about it. 😉

Take a look at this lettle inexpensive gem. It’s only $3.00 and that includes shipping and handling:

I may be mistaken, but I don’t think they are available in stores. I bought one and he sent me two. They work great!

    Hey guys, check this link:

An almost $200 water bottle, but it filters everything and is good for 1,500 gallons. I think it was developed with natural disasters like Katrina in mind, but the military may also be interested.

    I usually carry a small backpack/camelback.

I also avoid buying bottled water.  Buy a refillable bottle like that one pictured, save the plastic waste!

If you don’t already have a refillable type bottle, there’s no reason why the Poland Springs type bottles can’t be refilled as well. After I purchased my last supply of Poland Springs, I started saving the bottles and started reusing them.
