Ralph TomaccioMemberI like the new look of the site, but I noticed there are features missing that I liked and used, such as:
Is there a way of telling what topics have new posts from those that don’t?
Along with that, there use to be a way of marking the posts as read. I’m hoping that if my first request is possible, so would this.
Also, I tried to edit my profile and got the following: “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” If I’m logged in and it’s my profile, why wouldn’t I have sufficient permissions?
As beautiful as your Itinerant Angler Header is, combined with the ad it appears quite large and uses up 3/4ths of the screen. Sometimes larger isn’t always better. Just an opinion.
Any help would be appreciated with the above.
Thanks!

MemberAt least you got some response. When I tried to edit my profile and add a picture, nothing happens. I also had to register under a new name since I can’t get in with the old user name. Oh well, progress is great.

Ralph TomaccioMemberI hear ya! I had to re-register as well.

The Itinerant AnglerGuys –
If you’ve got problems with your registrations, please come to me by email and I’ll see if I can get them fixed.
Ralph, the new posts marker isn’t something that comes with bbPress by default, but I’ll look and see if I can find a plug in to add it. This board is very modular and I don’t have everything set up yet.
The comment about the header is well taken and I’m probably going to shrink it eventually for this section of the site. But it’s going to take a little time.
Now as for you guys not having enough permissions to edit your profile, I think I can fix that. I’ll work on it and get back to you.
I am new to this software too, and I am learning as I go. Remember, the reason we had to leave the old forum behind was that it had become unstable and was getting shut down by my web host due to having gone more than two years without an update and therefore being vulnerable to various attacks. WordPress doesn’t seem nearly as likely to just go away down the road.

Ralph TomaccioMemberHi Zach,
You’re doing a hell of a job with this site and the improvements are appreciated. I think we can all relate to learning as you go and the frustrations that go along with that. It does take time. Please don’t take my earlier comments in any way other than to let you know what at least one user likes and want. Without feedback, it’s easy to spend time on things that may not matter to many.
Keep up the excellent work. We DO appreciate it.

I see what’s going on now. There’s a permissions error with the site–I’ll get it fixed.

Not Admin ZachMemberOk Ralph I have an answer for you.
This site is a plug in nested in some powerful blogging software.
Technically, each of you are ‘bloggers’ on the blog site. However, for obvious reasons you don’t have permission to edit the actual blog section of the site.
Thus the blacked out dashboard bar at the top of your screen doesn’t actually edit your BOARD profile. I will eventually hide that because I know it’s confusing.
In order to edit your board profile, simply click on your own name over there to the left of the post, then you should be able to edit your profile information
Now a caveat: it looks like the user photo plug in I have currently doesn’t work properly, so I’ll update that in the next couple days. Some users have avatars already because they have already registered with the pan-Wordpress service called ‘Gravatar’ for purposes of commenting on WordPress blogs all over the web. I’ll make sure we have local avatars as soon as possible.

Ralph TomaccioMemberThanks, Zach.
Editing the profile from the lefty under the image area seems to be working fine.

The Itinerant AnglerOk Ralph I believe I have fixed it. Again, edit your profile from the left-hand side. There is now a slot at the bottom for you to upload your avatar. I recommend making sure this image is SQUARE before uploading or it will likely get cut off. It will resize automatically, however, so you just need to be sure it’s the right shape.

Not Admin ZachMemberLooking good there Ralph. I’ve just enabled a read/unread posts flag plug in. I’ll tweak the look a bit but it ought to work now.
Let me know if there are more issues and/or requests.

Ralph TomaccioMemberThe avatar is a go!
Thanks again, Zach.

Ralph TomaccioMemberOne more thought.
Are there any options to replacing the “Participant” title under our avatar?
May 11, 2013 at 4:22 pm #73667Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerRalph –
Yes, that’s goofy. I’ve been looking at trying to fix that for a couple days, but it’s part of the core bbPress installation and it’s going to take some coding. I am going to remove it. You can tell this entire thing was designed by nerds…
Thanks for the feedback Ralph. I really appreciate it and it is helpful.

Ralph TomaccioMemberZach,
I see you were able to add the “New Posts” marker”. That’s great. Thanks for all your hard work.

The Itinerant AnglerHey Ralph –
Thanks man. I’m presently trying to re-enable private messaging, and working on some integration things. I’m also re-hosting new graphics from the sponsors, since we changed sizes, and dialing in little things you might not even notice like the layout on the search page. However we’re mostly done at this point.
One thing y’all may not be aware of: you now carry your board registration with you around the site. So if you go comment on a podcast or an article, that’ll be directly from your board profile with no awkward additional log ins.
Hopefully people are using the Facebook log in feature.

Jeff SmithMemberHey Zach,
This is looking pretty good. Tried to log in a few days ago but was blocked by “Site Maintanence”, seems you were in the process of moving stuff over. Nice job, thanks for the work.
JeffMay 20, 2013 at 2:44 pm #73780Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerThanks Jeff. I’m still going to reduce the size of the header graphics when I get time (the size you see above was the default), but that’s a couple hours’ project and I haven’t had the time. I’m also still trying to re-enable personal messaging, but for the most part we’re about done with the transition.
