Mike you could do some *damage* with that boat in this area. You need to get one. 🙂

    Travis,

Did you get the boat set up with that 40/30 Yamaha jet? I picked up a skiff from John at the end of my trout season in Colorado. Thought I would power it with my old 35 Evinrude jet, but it definitely needs more hp. Looking at the Yamaha and just wondering how it pushes the Hog.

    Hey Alvin,

I rigged the Hog Island Skiff with a 40/30 Yamaha, and so far, I am pleased with how it pushes the boat .  My only issue is when you load the boat with gear and 2 passengers, it won't plane perfectly unless you have your passengers sitting toward the bow of the boat….once you get the weight forward, it rides nicely.

We chanced  the boat's capabilities by descending a small weir dam rapid to get to a great musky hole.  It was a bumpy ride down, but the boat ramped right up out of spilling rapid—my buddy wound up hooking a monster fish that will haunt us until we get another crack at him.

Here's some pics of the setup:

    Trolling Motor Battery:

Unmounted the Casting Platform:  Solo, it only took about 15 minutes:

    Tank, Battery and Bilge Pump:

Here's a video of the 40/30 Jet running. Personally, I think a 60/40 would work better…but you take a gamble with the added weight on that transom.

    Travis,
Thanks a lot! That is just the kind of info I was needing. Looks like I will have to go with the 50/35 Tohatsu engine. The specs say it weighs a little less than 200 lbs so the weight should be okay, I am going to be using the boat for guiding and most days I will have 2 anglers with me. Did you say you had a 25 with a prop for the salt? I was thinking about picking up a used one while saving my pennies for a new jet.How did that work? If you ever make it down this way look me up.

That looks awesome Travis. I fixed the image links for you – I am trying to figure out what went wrong there.

Awesome boat. I have a E-Tec 25 also on a trout boat I use up here in Arkansas. It is prop driven right now though. I see you have changed yours over to jet. How does it do? Does it seem to have enough power? I really want to change mine over.

I just edited my post. Let me rephrase my question. How “did” the E-Tec perform? Also How is the Yamaha. I love that boat.

When the going gets tough, the tough go fishing.
