If you have the reel seat off, you have already accomplished the hardest part.

Cork was recessed into the seat.

The actual seat itself is just a ceap-o thin wall tube with a cap at the bottom (downlocking) and the standard other hardware… I’d rather not fight with removing that cardboard filler, I’m guessing it’s epoxied to the blank.. which probably means tedius cutting to remove the filler.. but.. hey.. its got lots of great memories and I’d like to make it a little nicer for my daughter.. plus at 8ft it’s an awesome spring creek rod…

If I keep the cardboard tube (which it looks like I should).. I think I should saturate the top and bottom of tube with epoxy to ensure water resistance… I’m surprised it lasted as long as it has being cardboard.. I mean that area of the rod has been under water hundreds of times…

That is an unussual design by current standards.

Yeah, my suspicion is that I’m gonna have to remove the cardboard “arbor”…

      Cardboard… jeezzz

Don’t bag on it too much. Most all reel seat stations have to be built up a little bit (unless it is cane
