I am thinking about going down to camp at Sunburst Ranch for a couple of days and I have never fished the North Fork of Missouri before. I’m curious if it is easy to wade fish? I have heard the best way is to float, but are there plenty of places to wade as well? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wading can be a little iffy, depending on water level.

There’s not a *lot* of wading access because of private ownership along the river.
But there are enough places to wade near the accesses to keep you busy for a couple days.

I’ve even done well enough right in front of Sunburst. That was during the week with no floaters in the water.

Upstream from Patrick can be good, as well as fishing around Blair.

Check this article out (it was for Fly Fisherman) from the float I did with Kyle Kosovich, Brian Wise, Randy Hanner and Bryan Yates:

    Great river, super unique.

Great read….thanks Zach. I’m going back down this weekend to try and catch one of those big browns.

My son and I just got back from our trip down. Camped at Sunburst Ranch and highly recommend it. Justin is very helpful. We only caught two small browns, but plenty of healthy rainbows. Those wild rainbows put up quite a fight. Can’t wait to head back down. Going to be in Little Rock for work next week and going to try and stop off in Heber Springs and fish the Little Red!

That’s great JMill. Try and post a report from the Little Red if you get a chance, too.

I am going over to Arkansas this weekend for my brother’s wedding. I’ll likely be locked in doing wedding stuff the whole time but if I could sneak away… I would. Need to toss my fishing stuff in just in case.

    Zach,

I was able to fish the Little Red this afternoon. Started out at Cow Shoals and fishing was very tough. Was not able to catch a single fish there. Water was extremely low and I spent most of my time cleaning off moss from my fly. They have not been running any water. Decided to try and make myself feel a little better and try down by JFK and caught 8 or 9 rainbow in about an hour. Gotta love the those stockers!
